سجّلَت هذه المقابلة على تلفزيون MTV قُبيل إنعقاد المؤتمر العلمي الرابع الذي نظمته الجمعية الثقافية الرومية في 1 حزيران 2024. وبحسب التقليد الذي إعتمدته الجمعية، يُعقدُ المؤتمر العلمي السنوي في 29 إيار أو في أقربِ تاريخٍ منه، تخليداً لذكرى إستشهاد القسطنطينية في سنة 1453. خُصِّصَ المؤتمر الرابع لموضوع “العمارة الدينية الرومية في لبنان”. شارك في هذه المقابلة محافظ بيروت السابق القاضي زياد شبيب ورئيس الجمعية الرومية البروفسور نجيب جهشان. تطرقَ الحوار، في هذه المقابلة، الى دور الروم التاريخي في حوض البحر المتوسط وفي المشرق، والى كونِ التراث الرومي جزءاً مكوناً من جميع شعوب هذه المنطقة، وشرحَ علاقة الحضارة الرومية العريقة بحضارة جميع الطوائف اللبنانية الحالية. وشدَّدَ المشاركان في هذه المقابلة على أنَّ خلفيةَ الإضاءة على الحضارة الرومية ليست سياسية، بل هي خلفيةٌ ثقافية، وتجري مقاربتُها بموضوعيةٍ تامة.
وأضاءت المقابلة على الحقبات الأربعة التي أنتجت أربعة أنواعٍ من العمارة الدينية الرومية، وهي الحقبة التي سبقت إحتلال المسلمين للمشرق في سنة 634، والحقبة التي رافقت الخلافات الإسلامية المتلاحقة بين 634 و1516، والحقبة العثمانية التي أتاحت ترميم الكنائس وبناء أخرى، والحقبة المعاصرة التي رافقت إنشاء الدول الحالية. وشدَّد الدكتور جهشان، في هذه المقابلة، على كون كنيسة آجيا صوفيا في القسطنطينية هي الصرح المعماري الأمثل الذي، وللأسف، تحوَّل الى مسجدٍ، لكنه كان من الأجدى بالدولة التركية الحديثة التي تسعى لدخول الإتحاد الأوروبي وللظهور بمظهر الدولة الديمقراطية المنفتحة على العالم أن تعيدَها معبداً مسيحياً.
وفيما يتعلق بمسألة التعايش بين المكونات الدينية في لبنان، قال المحاضران بأن الحلَّ المستدام يكون بفصل الشأن العام عن الشأن الطائفي، بحيث يكون لكل واحدٍ منهما هيكلية دستورية تطمئنُ جميع المكونات الدينية.
This interview was recorded on MTV prior to the Fourth Scientific Conference organized by the Romaïan Cultural Society on June 1, 2024. According to the tradition adopted by the association, the annual scientific conference is held on May 29 or the nearest date, in commemoration of the martyrdom of Constantinople in 1453. The fourth conference was dedicated to the topic of “Romaïan Religious Architecture in Lebanon”. The former Governor of Beirut, Judge Ziad Chebib, and the President of the Romaïan Society, Professor Negib Geahchan, participated in this interview. The dialogue, in this interview, reviewed the historical role of the Romaïans in the Mediterranean basin and the Levant, stressed the fact that the Romaïan heritage is an integral part of the civilization of all the peoples of this region, and explained the relationship between the ancient Romaïan civilization and the current culture of all Lebanese religious constituents. The interviewed personalities stressed that shedding light on the Romaïan civilization is not a political issue, but rather a cultural one, and should be approached with complete objectivity.
The interview shed light on the four historical eras that produced four types of Romaïan religious architecture in the Levant: the era that preceded the Muslim occupation of the Levant in 634, the era that accompanied the successive Islamic caliphates between 634 and 1516, the Ottoman era that allowed the restoration of churches and the construction of new ones, and the contemporary era that accompanied the establishment of the current Levantine states. In this interview, Dr. Geahchan pinpointed that the Church of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople remains the ideal religious Romaïan architectural monument that, unfortunately, was transformed into a mosque, but it would have been more appropriate for the modern Turkish state, which seeks to enter the European Union and appear as a democratic state open to the world, to return it to the Christian faith.
Regarding the issue of coexistence between the religious components in Lebanon, the two lecturers said that the most suitable and sustainable solution is to separate public affairs from sectarian affairs, each group of affairs endowed with a constitutional structure that reassures permanently all religious components.
