The Social Committee of the Romaïan Cultural Association invites the association’s members, friends, and everyone who wishes to participate in a trip it organizes on Saturday, July 6, 2024, to the Batroun region in northern Lebanon. The trip, like all of the association’s trips, will include cultural, religious and recreational aspects, and its goal will be to explore some of the ancient religious sites in the region and visit ancient natural and archaeological sites.
The participants will successively visit the towns of Rashkida, Kfarhai, Boqsmaya, and Kfarhalda before reaching Douma, located in the upper Batroun region, where are located ancient ruins from the Roman era and famous Romaïan churches.
Among the most prominent monasteries and churches that the delegation will pass through is the Church of St. George in Rashkida, where the walls are decorated with medieval paintings and which is considered one of the most important Christian monuments in the Batroun region. As for the Monastery of Saint John Maron in Kfarhai, it is the place where the Maronite Church emerged, shortly after the year 685. This monastery currently contains the skull of Saint Maron, which was transferred to it in the twentieth century from the city of Rome. In addition to the Church of Saint Simon the Stylite in Boqsmaya and the churches of Kfarhalda, the Romaïan Orthodox Monastery of Saint John in Douma will be a main stop on this trip.
One of the most exciting natural sites to be visited are the banks of the Joz River in the town of Boqsmiya, showing ancient sarcophagi and watermills, and the waterfalls of Basatin al Issi that roar with power and majesty in Kfarhalda.
The trip will end with a tour of the old markets of Douma, witnessing, in the summer of 2024, several touristic festivals, and a lunch at the luxurious Esculapio restaurant at the main entrance of Douma.
